A few years ago, our CEO Luke hopped on a flight over to Bali for a two-week summer holiday, looking to soak up the sun on Jimbaran’s beaches, dive head first into the culture of Ubud and their monkey forests, and enjoy some traditional Balinese cuisine. However, one of the first things he noticed after stepping off of a 16-hour flight was how badly Bali has been affected by climate change.
Once upon a time, Bali’s dry and wet seasons were predictable; locals could prepare. As the years have passed, they are becoming more unreliable by the day. This has left local farmers clutching at straws, doing everything they can to make a living to support their families. Mainly having to clear forests to make room for planting crops like palm oil and coffee. During his island adventures, Luke felt the earth shake – literally. Being caught in the middle of an earthquake and experiencing the damage this can have to a community really opened his eyes to how matters as huge as climate change can affect islands as small as Bali in the middle of Indonesia.
Back in the UK, Luke couldn’t forget what he saw in Bali; he wanted to help the planet, even in a small way, so the idea of Earth Broadband was formed. Luke’s mission was to make a positive impact, he is definitely not saying he can save the world, just aiming to make a difference, one small step at a time.
Once Earth Broadband was formed, we looked at what our competitors were missing, and we definitely found a few! First of all, the customer reviews gave us a lot to work with; they were fed up with long wait times, confusing deals and hidden costs. The websites were even worse! We found them difficult to navigate, way too wordy and tech-heavy. But the biggest thing was we could not find anything relating to climate action, sustainability, or being green, almost as if climate change isn’t even a thing, and there it was clear as day, our gap in the market.
We then needed to bring in the big guys; we teamed up with broadband royalty, who have been scaling broadband companies in the UK for over 30 years. With invaluable knowledge, we found that they were the perfect fit for us! These guys have seen it all: dial-up internet, the introduction of fibre-optic and everything in between. With their expertise, we hope to keep setting new standards for the broadband game.
So no matter how you use your broadband, whether streaming your favourite shows, gaming with your friends, or just surfing the web, know that we have the best of the best backing us up.
In 2023, we hit the jackpot! We secured investment, which allowed us to get the wheels in motion and achieve our business goals, the top being able to service more homes across the UK. With our new funding, we are ready to take the UK by storm, get ready to see our presence in cosy cottages on the Cornwall coast and high-rise flats in London, Manchester and Newcastle.
Fast forward a few months, and we’ve set up the first version of our app. Think of it as your little helper, always there to help you. Our support pages can be viewed 24 hours a day to answer any questions you may have. Should you need to speak to the team, our live chat is available Monday – Friday between 10 am – 5:30 pm.
In the future, we’re aiming high and hoping to connect 100,000 customers. We are on a mission to create a tidal wave of positive change. All we can think about is the impact that planting 100,000 trees every month can have on the planet. It’s also not fully about the numbers; it’s about the difference we can make, even if it is just through exceptional service and high-quality equipment.
So join us on this wild ride and help us hit our biggest milestone; together, we can plant hundreds of thousands of trees and work to make the world a better place!
